How to Apply Wheelie Bin Number & Letter Stickers

Wheelie bins live a harder life than most sticker surfaces. They collect dust, road grime, rain and cleaning products, so good preparation matters more than simply pressing the vinyl on and hoping for the best.

1. Choose a smooth area

Pick a reasonably flat part of the bin rather than a deeply textured panel, moulded ridge or flexible edge. A smooth face gives the adhesive much better contact and makes the number or letter easier to align.

2. Clean the bin properly

Wash away dirt first, then make sure the fitting area is free from grease, polish and residue. Allow the plastic to dry completely. Do not apply vinyl to a damp surface.

3. Position before peeling

Hold the decal in place with the backing still attached. Check that it looks straight from normal viewing distance. If you are applying more than one character or marking several bins, use the same reference point each time for a consistent result.

4. Use the transfer tape

Rub firmly over the transfer tape before removing the backing paper. Keep detailed elements supported as you position the design. Press the vinyl onto the bin from the centre outward, working gradually to reduce trapped air.

5. Peel the tape back slowly

Remove the transfer tape at a low angle rather than pulling it directly away from the surface. If part of the vinyl starts to lift, lay the tape back down and press that area again before continuing.

6. Give the adhesive time

Avoid pressure washing or aggressive cleaning immediately after fitting. Let the adhesive settle before the bin goes back into normal outdoor use.
